What can finally push you to start your first business?

Two idiot bosses, both of whom were the perfect icons for The Peter Principle.

1. The guy two rungs above me who brought in a nice, complacent, inexperienced man to be my proximate manager. His first task was to tell me that I had been so successful that “whatever you’re doing, keep doing it; I won’t interfere.” Hands-off management. The folks who wrote In Search of Excellence would be proud (sic).

2. A VP who asked me to be GM of a subsidiary in Australia but couldn’t/wouldn’t raise my pay. When I told him that his offer was an ^&*@ insult, he decided that I was “too impatient.” Bull*!@# management. The man who wrote Peak would be proud (sic again).

So I became a writer/entrepreneur and, forty years later, a writer/teacher/publisher/ entrepreneur. If you want the details of how and why that happened, please read my book 12 Simply Smart Secrets for Living Large by Prospering Small. In its Epilog, I say:

I wrote this book to share insights into a life of living large by prospering small, hoping that others who are similarly inclined will follow my lead. To that end, the book is both a description of a life and prescription for other lives, perhaps yours.

Readers looking for overnight success will not find it here. Instead, they will find twelve secrets that are no longer secret and that work singly or synergistically over the longer haul. They can help you fulfill the vast promises of free enterprise and entrepreneurship to help you take charge of your life, your income, and your happiness.
